Tomeka partners with BOMF Atlanta helping men and women who are experiencing homelessness
Overview:
I’ve been apart of the Back on My Feet Atlanta community for more than 3 years serving as a volunteer and board member. BOMF is a national organization helping men and women experiencing homelessness get back to living a safe and healthy lifestyle. One of the tools used to assist members is running. I’ve participated in several group organized runs and official races with BOMF Atlanta staff, members, alumni, and volunteers.
In 2020, I was honored to emcee BOMF Atlanta’s first-ever virtual Circle-Up fundraiser during the coronavirus pandemic. The organization holds a special place in my heart and I’m happy to be a part of an amazing non-profit that gives back to the Atlanta community.
Challenges:
The event was originally scheduled to take place as an in-person breakfast fundraiser, but the health crisis forced the organization to engage the community into participating in a virtual charity program. The main concerns were safety precautions necessary to film live-to-tape in an outdoor space. We filmed each of my segments with limited lighting and some retakes, none of which interfered with the successful delivery of the final video.
Impact:
The Back on My Feet Atlanta Virtual Circle-Up 2020 event included nearly 300 participants and raised more than $60,000 towards the mission to help men and women across the country experiencing homelessness get back on their feet.
